Nebraska Game and Parks

Daryl Bauer, the guest of Washington County's representative on the Nebraska Game and Parks Commission, Rotarian Mick Jensen, writes a blog, "Barbs and Backlashes," for Game and Parks. He talked fishin' with Rotarians on Aug. 2.

"I've known since I was in junior high I wanted to be a fisheries biologist," Bauer said. He calls Nebraska the "mixed-bag capital of the world" for its variety of fish and wildlife.

Nebraska is unique because you can fish 12 months a year, he said. Anglers usually want to catch walleye, he said, but the state also has good white bass, largemouth bass, bluegill, trout and even muskie fishing. Bauer offered his suggestions for the best lakes to fish for each species.
