FBLA members learn good 'cents'

Speakers: Carli Pfeil, Erika Swenson, Brett Petersen

Blair FBLA members Carli Pfeil, Erika Swenson and Brett Petersen, along with chapter adviser Pat Olson, talked about their partnership last school year with Two Rivers Bank that focused on "financial fitness." Thirty-six percent of the chapter's members worked directly with Two Rivers Bank officials.

"It's very, very important for young people to be financially savvy," Olson said.

The students explained their project, "A Profitable Partnership That Makes Sense," which placed second at the state FBLA convention.

The chapter's Project of Work earned eighth place at the national convention in Atlanta. Nine members of the chapter went to the national convention. Olson said she's had national qualifiers every year she's been the adviser.

The students said they learned responsibility, communication and networking.

"To be able to work with these students who are so driven, it's fun," said Denise Dein, Rotary president and Two Rivers Bank employee.

The chapter is partnering this school year with Sid Dillon Chevrolet. The theme will be "patriotism."

Brett Petersen will also be assisting Rotary with its instrument collection drive at the Blair High School atrium.
