What's (The) Happening?
Speaker: Kelly Richards, The Happening
Kelly Richards, director of Blair Healing Rooms, Clothed to Succeed, Meetings at Grant Square and Treasured — all located at 10th and Grant streets, in the former Pinnacle telemarketing and skating rink building — is starting a new venture: a teen center.
Richards, who has a background in IT and is a former Joseph's Coat board member, wants to start The Happening to give teens a fun, safe and educational gathering place.
"It's all about the community coming together for the teens," she said.
The Happening would have three potential spaces to use in the building. It would have mobile seating for hanging out, a pool table, ping pong, gaming and training space. Richards envisions The Happening as a place to provide ACT, GED and military testing, and possibly a Christian radio station the kids could help operate.
Richards said she would like The Happening up and running by the summer. She is in the process of fundraising and grant writing.
